What Do You See

Spread the love

Proverbs 4:23(KJV)
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Years ago, a teacher carried out an experiment with his class. He passed out a picture to each of his students, and half of the class received a picture of an older woman while the other half received a picture of a younger woman. He asked each student to study the details of the picture for five minutes. Afterward, he projected an image on the screen and asked each student to describe it. There was great disagreement about the image; some students described her as young while others described her as old, and some saw short hair while others saw long, flowing hair. This went on for some time until the teacher finally explained to the class that the picture, he had placed on the screen had two images, and both groups were right and wrong because the one image contained both a young and older woman. He then went on to expound on his great object lesson.

The students had studied their respective images for five minutes, and as a result, they were only able to see the features their mind had been conditioned to see. The teacher further explained that if in five minutes, he could narrow the objectivity of his students, how had the things they spent the most time focusing on limited their ability to see the whole picture.

What do you spend most of your time doing? What does your heart focus on? Are you trapped in a negative cycle where you believe you will never be able to overcome the things you face? Are you overwhelmed with fear about the current state of world affairs, and this has created a feeling of hostility in you? If you want a broader view of all the things that are available to you, and your place and value in this life, then it is time to shift your focus from the snapshots that are placed before you and focus on God, where there are no limits and no impossibilities.
