Missing Your Moment

Acts 2:13(GNT)
But others made fun of the believers, saying, “These people are drunk!”

Some time ago, I watched the funniest thing I have seen on TV in a long time. The Ellen Show had a young girl on. Ellen gave the girl a map, a phone book, and a rotary phone. It was hilarious as I watched this young girl struggle to locate something on the map, struggle to look up a place of business in the Yellow Pages, and then dial that business number up on the phone. The climax of the entire ordeal occurred as the young girl did not realize that you must pick the phone up off the receiver before you begin to dial the numbers. In this world of fast-moving technology with programs, apps, and hard drives, for a moment, I felt as if my generation had been vindicated. I may not be an expert on Instagram, but I do know how to read a paper map!

With everything moving so fast and information being so fluid, it is easy to marginalize the things we do not understand. One hundred years ago, men depended on horses for everything. The thought of a horseless buggy was ludicrous to men, and because they could not fathom such an invention, they called it evil. Soon enough, those men found themselves behind the times, and their productivity was far surpassed by this machine called a car. The unwillingness to change often leaves one in the direst straits as they try to catch a train that has already left the station. When God moves in our lives, it is often in a way we don’t understand; perhaps it is in a way we have never seen before. We oppose what he is trying to do for us because it just doesn’t make sense. I challenge you today to be open to new things, for the places you can go will be places you could have never imagined.
